ACS Motion Control:
Rack Mounted Motion Controller Provides New Level of Precision, Motion Control
Tuesday, April 08, 2008

ACS Motion Control, an international manufacturer of advanced multi-axis motion controllers, machine control systems and integrated control modules, has developed a rack mounted system that delivers smooth motion control at high speeds, without compromising accuracy, for the most demanding applications. Designated the SPiiPlus 3U, the advanced two, four, six or eight axes motion controller features customized algorithms that offer precise motion control to meet a wide range of application parameters. Built for OEM rack-based systems, the SpiiPlus 3U can be integrated into ACS Motion Control's MC4U rack mount control module to provide motion control for up to eight motors drives.
"The rack-mounted SPiiPlus 3U features customized algorithms that give our customers the precise control needed to achieve any application goal," said Evan Reed, Vice President at ACS Motion Control. "The SPiiPlus 3U motion controller is incredibly easy to set-up and use, reducing the application development time and increasing the machine's time-to-production."
The SPiiPlus 3U controller supports a wide range of motion modes, including point-to-point, jog, segmented, master-slave and arbitrary path with PVT cubic interpolation. The motion controller features third-order profile generation with on-the-fly velocity, acceleration, jerk and target position changes, and position event generator (PEG) with sub-microsecond delay to ensure extremely smooth motion and accuracy, even at high-speeds.
The SPiiPlus 3U also provides sub-nanometer resolution using optional Sin-Cos encoders with a multiplier factor of up to 65,536. The motion controller also features a high-rate interface with digital, incremental encoders for all axis with dual loop options.
The SPiiPlus 3U is easy to program and operate, and is ideal for applications including semiconductor manufacturing, wafers inspection and flat panel display assembly and testing.
Optimized for motion control applications, ACS' powerful software tools provide easy setup, tuning and programming and application simulation. The software enables the implementation of highly complex motion-time-event sequences with accurate positioning and timing. The free motion simulator can be downloaded at www.acsmotioncontrol.com.
